Sandra Anita Blumberg
Watchung: Sandra Blumberg, age 19, died on Monday, July 2, 2007 at her home in Watchung. She was born in Plainfield and spent her whole life in Watchung.
Sandra was a communicant of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church and a student at Watchung Hills Regional High School. Sandra had incredible school spirit and was the first recipient of The Heart of a Warrior Award. This award was created for her and each year, the student who most exemplifies her spirit and generosity will receive this award. She was a very active fundraiser for the Children's Tumor Foundation and because of her successful fundraising, her name and the school's name appeared on one of the cars during the Daytona 500. Because of Sandra's spirit, Watchung Hills Regional High School chose the Children's Tumor Foundation this year which had 4 separate fundraisers. Sandra also wrote a book called (The Chemo Kid and Her Dogs.) She was a Special Olympics athlete, competing successfully in swimming and bowling.
She is survived by her parents, Dr. Edwin D. Blumberg and Marta Borgiel Blumberg; her brothers, Kristofer Blumberg of Hawaii and Mark Blumberg of Watchung; her sister, Renata Blumberg and her husband Arnoldas of Minnesota; her maternal grandparents Frank and Skaidra Borgiel and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6th at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Marys Stony Hill Church in Watchung. A committal service will be held on Saturday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Watchung Hills Regional High School, c/o Dot Braun 108 Stirling Road Warren, NJ 07059 and please reference your donation, In Memory of Sandra Blumberg.
