Obituary of Denise Myra Smith-Jones
Denise Myra Smith-Jones, age 51, went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2007, at Atlantic Hospice in Morristown, NJ.
Denise was born in Plainfield, NJ and was raised in Westfield and Plainfield, graduating from Plainfield High School in 1973. Denise attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She was a longtime resident of Fairfax and Loudon counties Virginia where she raised her daughter.
An advocate for fighting Breast Cancer, Denise was an Education and Training Coordinator at the National Breast Cancer Coalition of Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2004. During that time not only did she plan the conferences for Breast Cancer awareness, she also traveled from state to state helping many women around the world. She was also an event planner with Ancon in Lanham, Maryland, an executive Assistant at Battel Corp, as well as an administrative assistant at Freddie Mac in Fairfax, Virginia.
Denise is survived by her daughter, Brooklyn York Jones of Richmond, Virginia; her parents, Clarence and Narissa Smith of Plainfield; her sisters, Aaliyah (Leigh) VanHeusen and her husband, Christopher of Fort Edward, NY; Charlotte Smith-Jones and her husband, Sean of Upper Freehold Township, NJ; and Lisa Smith of Plainfield; six nieces, 2 nephews, as well as six grand-nieces, six grand-nephews and a host of many family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 7-9 pm and funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 12 noon at the Rose of Sharon Community Church, 825 West Seventh Street, Plainfield. Cremation Private.
