Dearest Mommy,
Elaine and I love you so much. We are so proud that God picked us, to be your children.
You have taught us so much, "like hold your head high even when others try to bring you down", "turn the other cheek", when you see a lemon, make lemonade", and "when people show you who they are, believe them". Because of you, we have been able to view the world in such a positive light.
Your beautiful grandchildren, Ni'Cole, Brandi and Mikee have been so blessed as well. All of them have so much of you.
Nikki has incredible spiritual strength, your dimples and she is an awesome actor. I can't forget the time that she appeared on Cosby, and even though you were in pain, you walked to the train station, slowly, and somehow made it to a cab, to see her film the show. I will always be grateful to Bill for hugging you tight, and sending us back home in a limo.
Beautiful Brandi, Elaine's daughter has your sense of humor, quick wit and academic excellence as well as outstanding basketball skills. She is an excellent teacher and so caring with her students. You were really proud of her, as you watched her play basketball and develop into a class act coach. You were always funny and really did not care that everyone was looking when you yelled "Go Brandi" loudly across the gym.
Mikee, Elaine's son, and your only grandson sees only the good in others. He has your loving spirit, never takes any mess and excels at every sport, just like you. Yes we were in there together to see how we could spoil him, but you made sure that he learned to appreciate life and reward his lessons with a kiss, and when he was old enough, a new car. Mikee now works in the Physical Therapy Department in a hospital and it seems as though he will find his way in the medical field, again, just like you.
You and Dad have changed the lives of so many people. You have given to the community, by beginning each Thanksgiving by teaching us to first go to feed the homeless. You have made an impact on Plainfield's politics, love your friends and your family, and I saw you slip cash to so many people. Now it is time for you to receive.
Before I go, I want you to know that I really loved that green Mustang. People knew that if it was parked in front of the voting offices, you were there or if the Sorors of AKA were meeting, your presence was evident.
Thanks Mommy for fighting for us and teaching us "what is really worth it" and May you continue to be blessed. Lastly, thank you for the video of us dancing together. For us to receive it on the day that you passed was an incredible gift.
Please Mommy, stay close, I need to keep feeling you now. Elaine and I have said it a million times, but once more, please know how much we love you.
Your loving Daughter,
Annette

My fondest memories are of singing "The Name Game" and hhiding from your mom the day we came home after we had had too much to drink. I'm sure she knew something was up, but she never said a word. She treated me like I was part of the family and I am truly thankful to have know her.
Love ,

Mrs. Leath a true freedom fighter in every sense of the word, she taught me what dedication to a cause meant. Our love of the NAACP will always live on in my heart. The State Conference of NAACP and the Plainfield Branch will continue to keep praying for our extended family. May your hearts be blessed with healing grace.

Irene was wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She lived what she believed, and
was faithful to her family, her church and the welfare and cause of African Americans. I was fortunate to have known her for 13 years as pastor.
Thank youy for informing me about her death. We just finished 4 days of our parish feast, which took up a lot fo time. All of you are in my prayers at this difficult time.
May you all find comfort and strength in each other and the Lord, who watches over you and offers you his gentle, healing touch.

Dear Mr.Leath Elaine, Annette and Family,
It is with sadness that I light this candle, but the brightness of the flame reminds me of Mrs. Leath. She
lived her life holding her love ones close with one hand while helping others with the other hand. We shared many fun moments together that I will never forget. They say that God never sends for you until he has your room ready.
I am sure he holds her close to his heart, after all she was special you know!
