Obituary of Pearl de'Marsi

Pearl (Yannuzzi) deMarsi, age 98, died on Saturday, November 17, 2007 peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family and her beloved cat, Patches, after a short illness. Pearl was born in Valva, Italy and came to the United States as a young child, growing up in Stirling, NJ. Pearl and her father took numerous trips to Italy and they resided in Rome for many years. She married Ermando deMarsi, a Member of the Italys Kings Guard. Because of World War II she was unable to return to the United States. Toward the end of the war, she began working with the Allies and the Red Cross. When the war ended, as a Naturalized U.S. citizen, she returned to the United States on The USS Shark, with her son, Vito, and they resided in Warren, NJ. Her husband followed one year later. Pearl was a Floral Designer for Warrenville Florist and Berkeley Florist, retiring to spend more time with her beloved grandchildren who were her greatest joy. She had a life-long love of plants and flowers and actively gardened through her 98th year. She was a veracious reader and was surrounded by her library of numerous books. Pearl delighted in cooking Italian specialties and personally delivering them in her Jeep to her family and friends. She was always dressed up wearing one of her many colorful hats and gloves. She is predeceased by her father, Vito Yannuzzi; her brother, Emil Yannuzzi; her sister-in-law, Alice Yannuzzi and former husband, Ermando deMarsi. Pearl is survived by her son, Vito (Vic) deMarsi and his wife, Linda of Warren, NJ; two grandsons, Michael deMarsi and his wife Terilyn of Raleigh, NC; and David deMarsi of Chestertown, MD; one granddaughter, Nancy deMarsi of Hillsborough, NJ; 2 great-grandsons, Andrew and Ethan; 3 nieces, Carol Yannuzzi of Las Vegas, NV; Elaine Yannuzzi of Pluckermin, NJ and Maria Mariantoni of Middlesex, NJ; and 1 godchild, Lee Dolan of Summit, NJ. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church in Warren. Interment will be in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery, Stirling. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, 200 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
