Obituary of Joseph G. Loeffler, M.D.

Millington: Joseph G. Loeffler, M.D., age 57, died at home surrounded by his family on May 25, 2008. Dr. Loeffler was born in Plainfield and raised in South Plainfield. He and his family resided in Berkeley Heights for 16 years before moving to Millington eight years ago. Dr. Loeffler graduated from St. Josephs High School in Metuchen and received a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. In 1978, he earned his Doctorate of Medicine from The Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York City, NY. He received his board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in September of 1981 and was in private practice for 26 years. Dr. Loeffler was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ and formerly at Columbia University. He had been the Chairman of the Department of Medicine and was the Chief in the Section of Primary Care of Internal Medicine at Overlook Hospital. Dr. Loeffler is survived by his wife of 32 years Karen A. Loeffler and their four children; Kara La Rocco and her husband Thomas, Joseph G. Loeffler, Jr., Hope Loeffler, and Paul Loeffler; his parents; Henry A. and Carmella Loeffler; one brother; Paul Loeffler; two sisters; Hope Loeffler and Margaret DePaul. Dr. Loeffler was also expecting the arrival of his first grandchild, Julianna Grace La Rocco. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by an 11:30 Mass of the Resurrection at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Basking Ridge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
