Obituary of John A. McAdams, Jr.

John A. (Mac/The Captain) McAdams, age 63, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 after a long battle with cancer at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. He was born in Riverside, NJ and had lived in Burlington, Mt. Holly and Philadelphia before moving to Warren. Mr. McAdams graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly. He received his Associates Degree from the Temple University School of Engineering and his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NJIT-Newark. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966, doing two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Sgt. E-5. One of his greatest life experiences was his time with the USMC where he actually had two extended tours in Vietnam and was a constant fighter for his belief in freedom for all. Prior to his retirement, Mr. McAdams was an Engineer and Division Manager of Mechanical Division and Building Services for Public Service Electric and Gas Research Center in Maplewood. Mr. McAdams was a Past Exalted Ruler of Watchung Hills BPOE #2252 and the Past CDR & Sr. Navigator of Northern NJ Sail and Power Squadron. He had a passion for charity work, animals, boating/boating safety which he taught and the Republican Party. He was devoted to his family and friends and was always there for everyone. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathleen McGuire McAdams fomerly of Medford Lakes, NJ ; his daughter, Shannon Connor McAdams of Warren; his cousins from Burlington County; his sister-in-law, Patricia Luciani of Marlton, NJ; his brother-in-law, Vincent McGuire, whom he considered a brother of Atlantic Beach, FL; his many nephews and nieces who were so devoted to him and all of his many friends from high school, PSE&G and Warren Township. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Marys Stony Hill Church.
