Obituary of Hilda Baron

Hilda Hess Baron, age 95, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at her home in Watchung. Hilda was born on 9/13/1913 in Plainfield, NJ, the daughter of Isaac and Jennie Hess. She grew up in Plainfield and North Plainfield, graduating from North Plainfield High School in 1931. She lived in Linden, North Plainfield and Plainfield before moving to Monroe Township 30 years ago. Two years ago, she moved to Watchung.She worked as a receptionist and nurse assistant in her husband's medical office. She loved to bake, famous especially for her yeast buns and she also made several delicious soups, both of which she fondly distributed to her family, accepting all requests. While living in Monroe Township, she enjoyed golf, canasta and mah-jongg. She did volunteer work for both Deborah Hospital and the Jewish Family Service. She was an avid sports fan.On September 13, 2008 her 95th birthday, she celebrated the occasion with over 100 relatives and friends who gathered from 11 states and Paris, France. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed by both family and friends.She was pre-deceased by her husband, Leo E. Baron, MD in 1990 and her son, Steven D. Baron in 2003. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Sylvia Cohen, Sophie Sklarew, Evelyn Tretsky, Milton and Herbert Hess.She is survived by daughters Bonnie Shrager and husband James of Somerset and Susan Lippitt and husband Arthur of Watchung with whom she resided. She leaves behind loving grandchildren, Jennifer Shrager and husband Eli Lourie, Andrew Lippitt, Jeffrey Shrager, Matthew Lippitt and wife Samantha, Lauren Lippitt, Meredith Lee and husband David and Jessica Baron. Her five great-grandchildren, Jonah and Celia Lourie, Jordyn, Max and Jaime Lippitt will surely miss their smiling "GG".She is also survived by her brother Frederick Hess and wife Barbara of Florida, sister-in-law Charlotte Hess of Monroe Township, several nieces, nephews and caregiver and special friend, Hanna.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung with Rabbi Moshe Samber officiating. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.Memorial contributions can be made in Hilda's memory to the Early Childhood Program at the Shimon & Sara Birnbaum JCC, 775 Talamini Road, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 or Hospice & Atlantic Home Care, 33 Bleeker Street, Millburn, NJ 07041.Shiva will be held on Thursday, Friday (12 noon to 4 pm on Friday) and Sunday at Susan and Arthur Lippitt residence, 40 Glen Eagle Drive, Watchung, and on Monday and Tuesday at Bonnie and Jim Shrager residence, 12 Republic Row, Somerset. There will be services on Thursday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the above addresses.
