Obituary of Darlene K. Mangold
Darlene (Donohue) Mangold, age 68, died on Saturday, October 03, 2009 at CareOne at the Highlands Health Care Center in Edison.
Darlene was born in Newark, NJ to the late Thomas Donohue and Lillian Beyer. She lived in Vailsburg and Union before moving to Plainfield in 1970.
Darlene attended Kean College receiving her BS degree, and Seton Hall University receiving her MA degree evenings while teaching. She attended Oxford University on a fellowship for Shakespearian study. Darlene earned Summa Cum Laude recognition in both her degrees.
Darlene was a Teacher and Supervisor of the English Department in Roselle Park High School for 40 years, retiring in 2006. During her tenure she directed plays, and won 1st place in the Columbia Scholastic Press for the yearbook. She was supervisor for the school paper "The Panther" and the National Honor Society for many years. She never encountered a student or child she didn't love. In addition, Darlene earned and was published an unprecedented 3 times in Who's Who in American Teachers. She also earned the Governor's award for excellence in education twice. Darlene enjoyed doing the NY Times crossword puzzles, the beach, ocean and travel.
Darlene was predeceased by her sister, Cheryl Parascand.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Roy Mangold of Plainfield; her brother, Thomas Donohue and his wife Marlene of Grand Island, NY; her sister, Dawn Zappulla and her husband Joseph of Irvington; her brother-in-law, Paul Parascand and his sons of Howell; her sister-in-law Beverly Mangold of Basking Ridge; her mother-in-law, Gertrude Santaniello of Tinton Falls; two nieces & two nephews, Kerry, Ryan, Paul, Cheryl and our godson, Joseph Dudash. She was dearly loved by many cousins and friends. Her warmth, generosity and compassion will be missed by all.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 8:00 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 9:15 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union. Interment will be in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
