Obituary of Albert Rossi
Warren: Dr. Albert Rossi, a resident of Warren, NJ for more than 40 years, passed away on April 2, 2010 from Pulmonary fibrosis at Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. Albert was born on January 4, 1934 in the Bronx and was raised in New York City.
Albert received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1952 from City College of New York. He later received his M.S. in 1958 and PhD in 1964 both degrees in organic chemistry from New York University. He was employed as a research chemist in organic and polymer chemistry at Interchemical Corp., Radiation Applications Inc. for a short time before spending almost 35 years at Exxon Chemical Company. Dr. Rossi was an Emeritus Member of the American Chemical Society, having joined in 1959.
Dr. Rossi was the author or co-author of over 16 papers published in leading scientific journals. He was also the inventor or co-inventor of over 53 U.S. Patents in the areas of oil additives and polymeric materials. He was a superb experimentalist with a keen ability for the synthesis of organic and polymer materials.
Although maintaining an interest in chemistry and science after retirement, he devoted himself vigorously to many other activities. Albert was very active in several hiking and bicycling clubs in New Jersey, played bridge weekly, and belonged to multiple library book clubs. He traveled at least two months of the year and visited over 40 states and most European countries at least once, as bicyclist, hiker and tourist. Albert also visited Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands. Dr. Rossi relished his retirement and was quick to recommend it to all as soon as they could afford it.
Dr. Rossi is predeceased by his wife, Danute Rossi.
He is survived by his three children; Karen and her husband Chuck, David and his wife Karen and Jason, five grandchildren; Zachary, Ethan, Tyler, Sean, Isabella, two sisters; Helen and Sylvia, brother; Roland, and many nieces and nephews.
Albert was devoted to his family, all of whom benefited from his caring devotion. He touched many lives in countless ways and will be remembered fondly.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Monday April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Mount Chapel in Warren. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung. Arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung.
