Susan was a very sweet and great girl. She never said anything mean or hurtful to anyone. She wasn't in my class but I still talked to her once or twice. I really wish I got the chance to know her better.
I'm very sorry she passed away. I am glad I got to know her even if it was just a little.

From my very first meeting with Susan in my clinic with her devastating liver failure, I was struck by the extraordinary beauty and courage of this remarkable child. Restoring her to health after her lvier transplant was a high-point in my endeavor to help care for children with genetic liver diseases. After her transplant, I saw the real Susan emerge as gifted child, determined to pursue a career in medicine and many times expressed her wish to come to Yale and dreamt one day she will work with me in pediatric hepatology. I am convinced she had every ability to accomplish her bold vision.
Susan's courage was inspirational. Despite her end stage liver disease, she would come to my clinic and report she aced her exams and was put forward in her classes. I will forever treasure the fact that I could connect with Susan in a very special way.
I can not fathom this tragedy but feel that in knowing Susan and awesome courage of her parents and her uncle, rest of family, I came close to touching divinity.
Susan will forever be an inspiration and represent a challege to physicians and scientists to serve patients like Susan much better than we are able to do despite our access to all the technology and apparent know-how.
It was an honor knowing Susan and with my deep admiration for the courage and resilence of her parents and uncle.

Dearest Susan touched my heart and the lives of her fifteen other classmates. She had an infectious smile and a heart of gold. She was and angel here on Earth, and I know she is still one of the brightest stars in the sky. Even though I was Susan's teacher, this beautiful soul certainly taught ME a lot about life. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kola family always.

Susan was the loveliest child. I was her school principal. She was a gifted artist and well-read. As educators, our children learn from us, but also we learn from our children. Susan has taught me to love nature, be kind, and smile. There will always be a place in my heart for our Susan.

Our dear Susan. I remember our recess times together. You would draw or play on the computer. One of your favorite things was the rice computer site that provided food for children. You loved that one. I remember a happy girl with those big beautiful brown eyes. You would smile and look right into my eyes. I will miss your smile, Susan. I will miss you. You will forever be held in my heart, though. Love, Mrs. Ladd
