Mr. Tierney was my 6th grade teacher at Valley View and I found him to be one of the best teachers I had ever had. He was a kind and caring individual and always made learning fun, although learning those poems was a true chore!I remember that I had a hard time pronouncing certain words and he neither embarrassed or chastised me but gently taught me to say it correctly. I wrote on the Who grew up in Watchung Facebook page of his passing and the tributes of past students was so touching! He inspired each and every one of us that had the privilege to learn from him and know him. RIP Mr. Tierney.

Mr. Tierney was a great person who was filled with many positive qualities that I took away from him as I met him during my teen years and continued to know him through sports throughout the years. He allowed me opportunities to learn, develop, and mold myself into the person as well as the sports official I am today. I looked up to him as not only as a mentor, but reminded me of someone from my family which allowed me to feel more comfortable with him as he guided me and taught me sports. We both shared a passion and desire to be involved in sports and I actually saw myself being like him as I grew up. He helped me in life and sports was a way for us to meet. For that I thank him and appreciated all he did for me as I have nothing bad to say about him, except maybe for that chewing tobacco that he was known for which I always told him that it was bad for him, but otherwise he was a role model and a huge positive influence in my life. My parents were always hearing stories from me about Mr. Tierney and also taking phone calls from him when I was not home so he left a mark in life for sure. He was well known, liked, and respected by many especially in the area for all the games, leagues, and sports he was a part of. Thank you Mr. T
