Sister Mary Anina Schott, Sister of Mercy
Sister Mary Anina, 97, died peacefully on February 21, 2011 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, NJ.
Sister was born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ and attended Saint Nicholas Grammar School and Holy Spirit High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1930. She received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ and an MA degree in English from Seton Hall University. Her teaching career spanned fifty years. She was a revered teacher who loved her students as much as they loved her. She taught in St Elizabeth School, Bernardsville; St John School, Collingswood; St James School and Red Bank Catholic HS, Red Bank and
St Mary HS, Perth Amboy. She also served as Liberian in St Mary Academy, Lakewood and St Dominic School, Brick.
She retired to St James Convent, Red Bank. A place she had called home for almost thirty years.
Sister Anina come to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in 2002 where she continued her ministry of prayer and hospitality.
She is survived by her brother Louis Schott from Maryland and many loving and caring nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, a multitude of grateful students and friends who never forgot the life lessons she taught them and also many Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.
Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center on
Thursday, February 24, 2011 visiting from 4:00 to 7:30 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Friday, February 25 Visiting 9:00 to 11:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am.
Burial in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
