Obituary of Gladys Ann Fitzgerald

Gladys "Cookie" Fitzgerald, age 68, died on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Cookie grew up in North Plainfield, raised her children in Plainfield and moved back to North Plainfield in 1993. She received her nursing degree from Clara Maass in Newark, NJ. In July 2010 she retired as R.N. Head Nurse of the Special Needs Unit at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Edison. She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse who loved her patients. Cookie was easy-going, loved to laugh, and will be remembered as someone who enjoyed cooking for family and friends and spending time with her grandsons. Surviving are her daughters; Robin Fitzgerald-Jones and Paige Fitzgerald; her son, Gerald W. Fitzgerald, her brother, Fred Letter; and her grandchildren, Jasper and Milo Fitzgerald-Jones and Nathaniel Fitzgerald Meicke. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by the interment at Springdale United Methodist Cemetery, Warren. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
