Obituary of Richard W. Carlson
Richard W. Carlson, age 77, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born in Plainfield, raised in Green Brook and lived in Warren for 48 years.
Mr. Carlson was a Supervisor with the NJ Turnpike Authority in New Brunswick.
He served in the Korean War where he received the NJ Distinguished Service Medal.
Mr. Carlson was an active member and Ex-Chief of the Washington Valley Fire Dept., a member of the American Legion Post 293 and the Honorary Police Benevolent Association. He was also on the Extrication Team of Warren Township.
He loved hunting, working with his hands and giving back to his community.
He is predeceased by his wife, Doris Fuhrer Carlson in 2010.
Surviving are his sons, Wayne Carlson and his wife, Cindy of Warren, Brian Carlson of Holland Township; his daughters, Janet Parolari and her husband, Raymond of Bethlehem, NJ and Darlene Ferry and her husband, Steven of Williams Township, PA; his grandchildren, Amy, Casandra, Jay, Michael, Emma, Faith and Nicholas; his great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ava and his sister, Anita Gubernat of Delaware.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Springdale United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington Valley Volunteer Fire Dept., 146 Washington Valley Road, Warren, NJ 07059 or to St. Luke's Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
