Obituary of Philip J. Clements

Philip J. Clements, age 62, a resident of Chester Township, NJ, tragically passed away in a plane accident on the evening of Tuesday, September 8th. Phil was born in Bremerton, WA and lived in New York City for 15 years before moving to Chester in 1991. He valued education and was a life-long learner. He earned a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Puget Sound, a J.D. from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, an L.L.M. in Taxation from NYU School of Law and a Masters in Theological Studies from the Reformed Theological Seminary. Phil had a passion for serving clients and mentoring fellow colleagues. His long and illustrious career started at Coopers and Lybrand, LLP in 1978 where he became a partner and was on the U.S. board. He continued serving as partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP where he was on the U.S. and global boards. During his time there, he was the global leader of the Corporate Value Consulting practice which was acquired by Standard and Poor's in 2001. Phil held the position of Executive Vice President and leader of S&P Corporate Value Consulting until he retired in 2004. Not one to sit on the beach, Phil went on to co-found Cathedral Consulting Group, LLC with the vision to bring technical skills to small business enterprises while relying on the timeless business principles found in Scripture. He also went on to found Calyx Capital Advisors, LLC; The Center for Christian Business Ethics Today, LLC; Academic Development Consulting, LLC; and PJC Real Estate, LLC. As an advocate for the next generation, Phil had a passion for mentoring and teaching all ages. He taught at The King's College, Rutgers University and numerous adult and high school Sunday school classes. In his free time, he was adventurous and loved to sail, pilot his plane, ski and travel with his family. Phil was a loving husband and father and active member of his church, Grace Bible Chapel, serving as an elder and as part of the touring praise and worship team PowerSurge. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Julie, his three daughters and their husbands, Julie and Jay Morrison, Pam and Andrew Schopp and Cindy and Matthew Krantz, and two grandchildren with a third expected in November, his mother Sylvia Anderson, his brother Jim and his wife Sue, and his sister Jennifer, along with a wide extended family. The viewing will be held at Higgins Home for Funerals at 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ on Monday, September 14th from 7-9pm and Tuesday, September 15th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The service will be held at Grace Bible Chapel, 100 Oakdale Road, Chester, NJ on Wednesday, September 16th at 10am. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery Scotch Plains.
