Truly saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. I hope the McKenna family can find some comfort in knowing that Jerry's professional efforts brought tremendous environmental health benefit and service to thousands of Native Americans. He was a consistent and passionate advocate for identifying need, developing solution approach, and pursuing funding resources to improve reservation living conditions.
To say Jerry was soft spoken could perhaps be this year's understatement. For well over ten years I spent hundreds of hours on the phone with him. Needless to say I kept my radio close so I could turn the volume down when I saw "EPA Region 1" come up on caller ID. Like others, I learned long ago that what Jerry had to say was well worth listening closely for.
On second thought, this might be the understatement of the year; I'll miss him.

Prayers and condolences for the McKenna family. I worked with Jerry for several years on Tribal drinking water projects in the early 2000's, and I always appreciated his calm and friendly approachability - he was always a voice of reason in the room and a great advocate for the Tribes. He will be missed.

I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. Gerry was a wonderful colleague at EPA. The Indian Nations so appreciated his work on their behalf. Gerry proudly showed photos of his wonderful family, especially Patrick. May God look down on you all and grant you the strength to cope with your loss.

This is truly a shock. I had the privilege of working with Gerry with the NY tribes. It was evident to me how all the tribal engineers and chiefs really loved Gerry. He was loved not only by his work but as a person. It was a pleasure working with him on needs for the tribes in the report to Congress. We spent a lot of time together in the GOV's driving from the office upstate working with the tribes.
I was honored to be by his side representing EPA. He will be missed.
I will pray for his family.

Jerry was a gentle man with a gentle smile. I am so happy that I was able to get to know him down at the shores of Manasquan and that he is part of the best of times with the best of friends. I cannot imagine the loss you are all feeling and hope that time softens your grief and the memories you are left with bring you peace. To Jerry: J-E-T-S Jets.Jets.Jets.

So, sad to hear of the passing of Jerry. He was always willing to assist the Tuscarora Nation on any water issues, whether it being sampling or long-term like the possibility of providing public water. His efforts also helped us sample our residential well water that provides drinking water to our homes at the Tuscarora Nation. He was always a pleasure to work with on projects and he will surely be missed. Our condolences to you and your family. Rene Rickard, Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force, Tuscarora Environment.
