Obituary of Marvin Lee Blaustein
Marvin Lee Blaustein of 110 Risoli Terrace, South Plainfield, quietly passed away on February 10, 2017 .
Lee was raised in Brooklyn NY , the son of Michael and Jennie Blaustein. He attended the City College of NY an earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Science as well as attended NYU graduate school of Education earning him his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. In later years, he was recognized with an honorary Doctorate from Princeton University for his work in Science Education. He was also a graduate of the US Staff College in Battle Creek MI, and studied at the Newark College of Engineering.
After volunteering his service with honor as a “medic” and Ranger in the US Army in WW2, he returned to the US where he attended City College and met his wife, Adrienne. They married in March of 1951 and moved to South Plainfield where Lee began teaching and coaching wrestling at the North Plainfield HS. Lee then served as department head at the Watchung Hills RHS, Vice Principal at the Cedar Grove HS, Supervisor of Science in the Bridgewater HS, Vice principal and principal in the Piscataway schools and retired after 11 yrs as principal of the Franklin Twsp HS. In 1987, he joined the Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and since 1989 was the program administrator for the Automotive Technology programs at the college. Lee was also member of post 6763 of the local VFW.
Lee received recognition during his educational career as the recipient of the Princeton University Prize for outstanding teaching, the Rutgers University Engineering Award, the Rutgers University Science Fair Administrator Award, the Rutgers University Extension award for teaching excellence, The Barringer Award from Brookdale and the NJ College SID recognition.
Lee will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his love of family get togethers, barbeques, country line dancing, music, and his passion for a good hot dog!
Lee is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Adrienne and son Neil. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Dolcimascolo and husband Anthony, Elyne Foscolo and husband John and Bonnie Blaustein, and one sister, Ruth. He leaves a family of loving grandchildren, John Foscolo and his wife Brooke, Melanie Lidon and her husband Mike, Benjamin Dolcimascolo, Tina Foscolo, and Evan Dolcimascolo. He also leaves his great grandchild, Johnny Foscolo.
Services will be held at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung, N.J. at 11:30am , Monday, February 13th immediately followed by a graveside service at Beth Israel Cemetary cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be accepted to the Colon Cancer Alliance. The family will be sitting shiva on Tuesday February 14th from 12 to 7 pm at110 Risoli Terrace South Plainfield NJ
