Obituary of Chief Martin J. Kane
Chief Martin J. Kane, age 78 died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home in Maine. He was born and raised in North Plainfield and lived in Warren Twp., NJ and Naples, NY before moving to Madrid, Maine 10 years ago.
Chief Martin J. Kane served in the United States Marine Corps in 1954. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA in 1982. Chief Martin J. Kane was a Police Officer in North Plainfield from 1960 until 1971 when he joined the Warren Township Police Force and became Chief of Police in 1983.
He belonged to the Warren Township Lions Club, Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association, the Somerset County Pistol League and the International Chief's Association. He was also a member of PBA Local 235 in Warren Township and PBA Local 81 in North Plainfield.
He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, golf, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with his beloved grandchildren that were the light of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Jessica Montross Kane; daughters, Kathleen Schettini and her husband Randy, Dawn Marie Kane-Lacey and her husband Charley and Audrey Kane-Kingsland and her husband Lt. Russell Kingsland; his sister, Audrey Kane and his grandchildren, Det. Russell Kingsland and Katherine Kingsland.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by cremation at Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
