Obituary of Helen Skuya

Helen Skuya, age 96, passed away on Saturday May 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Chatham Hills Nursing Center in Chatham. Born on November 3, 1922 in Newark; Helen resided in Springfield for over 65 years. 

Prior to her retirement, Helen worked as an aide in the cafeteria at the Gaudineer School in Springfield for many years. Helen also worked for RCA in Newark.

Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening. Helen also enjoyed watching golf and was an active member of the local Senior Citizens groups for many years.

She met the love of her life, Anthony (“Tony”) Skuya, and they were happily married for over 40 year until he passed in 1986.  Helen is also predeceased by two sisters Jean and Gigi.

She is survived by two sons Martin Skuya and his wife Bernadette, Michael Skuya and his wife Arleen and two grandchildren Robert Skuya and his wife Corrie and Daniel Skuya and his wife Shannon. Three great grandchildren Ryan, Benjamin and Cailey also survive her and many adoring nephews and nieces.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at the St. James the Apostle Church in Springfield 45 South Springfield Ave. Springfield NJ 07081 followed by the internment at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
