Joseph Petricone

Obituary of Joseph J. Petricone

Joseph J. Petricone, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Somerset in Somerville. Born in Paterson, he resided in Hawthorne for 30 years before moving to Basking Ridge in 1992.

Joseph honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1959-1963. Prior to retiring in 2002, Joseph had worked his entire career as a manager in data processing having last worked for PNC Bank in Woodland Park.

He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Warren. Joseph, or Joe as he was called, was an avid Yankee and a long-suffering but loyal Miami Dolphin’s fan.  A quiet and honorable man, he truly loved spending time with his family and made many a weekly trip up to Hawthorne to his son and daughter, especially after his retirement. Joe so enjoyed family celebrations with his children and grandchildren and extended family. After he received the gift of a donated kidney, he and Kathy were able to travel and to enjoy the freedom that such a gift made possible. They also loved their home and while it was fun to travel, it was equally enjoyable to return home. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Kathleen (Howe) Petricone; cherished family, daughter Jacqueline Surmick and her husband Michael and his son Peter Petricone; grandchildren Shane Joseph and Kayla Nicole Cashin; Brother-in-law George Howe and his wife Dawn and his close cousin Doris DiStaso. He is also survived by niece Donna Maria Napoli and nephew Scott Petricone. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Theresa Petricone, a brother Peter Petricone and a sister Catherine Gentner.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish please make a donation in his name to Pilgrim Congregational Church or Bugles Across America, NFP.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 105 Mountainview Road, Warren, NJ 07059. Arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ  07069.
