Obituary of George J. Martino
George Martino, age 92, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Menlo Park Veteran’s Memorial Home in Edison, NJ. He was born and raised in Tottenville, Staten Island and resided in Westfield, NJ, for 35 years before moving to Scotch Plains, where he lived before he relocated to the Veteran’s Home a year and a half ago.
George proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in Japan at the wars conclusion. After coming back home, he attended Fordham University on the GI Bill. George took up the construction trades, eventually establishing himself as the owner and operator of Industrial Contractors Inc., in Westfield, which handled various construction and engineering projects, and which he ran for 25 years before retiring.
George was considered an excellent cook by his family. He enjoyed both playing and watching golf, and he was also a fan of the Yankees and the Giants.
George was a devout Roman Catholic and attended church wherever he lived.
He is pre-deceased by his wife D. Joan Martino, sisters Philomina, Rose and Yolanda, and his brother John.
George is survived by his daughter, Ann Simone and her husband Sal; son George Martino and his wife Judy, and daughter Lynn Lambertsen and her husband Jack; four grandchildren - Anthony and Michael Simone, and Joseph and Matthew Martino - and one sibling, Gaetan Martino.
A viewing will be held on Monday, December 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ. Funeral services will then commence at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung, NJ, with interment to follow.
