Obituary of Wendy Piller
Wendy Merkin Piller, age 68, passed away at Morristown Memorial Hospital on Saturday December 21, 2019. Born and raised in Newark, Wendy had resided in Springfield before moving to Warren 33 years ago.
Wendy received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Kean University and later went on to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from Ryder University.
Wendy has been working as a teacher in the Warren Public schools for many years. She began her career as an elementary school teacher there and later helped develop the gifted and talented program where she has been teaching for the past several years. Even though, she was a recipient of the Governor’s Award in Education, her proudest achievement was always seeing her past students and learning about their future goals and success stories. She will be greatly missed by the many students and faculty she has touched throughout her career.
She was a founding member and the current president of the Chai Center for Jewish Life in Warren. She was also on the board of the B’nai B’rith Food Industry Lodge Foundation and on the board of the Autism Think Tank. She was an officer of the Upper Saddle River Chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseur. She was a food and wine enthusiast. But no matter how busy Wendy was working or volunteering she always made time for Willow and Violet, her precious twin grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Steven Piller; her beloved daughter Amanda; and her grandchildren Willow and Violet. She is also survived by a host of loving friends and extended family.
