To My beloved elder brother,
Motabhai, you will be missed and there are no words to describe the pain that we are all dealing with. I learned to walk holding your finger, I grew up being fed by you, and I learned wisdom and peace looking up to you. You are the shining star that shone light in darkness. You have left legacy and found place in hearts of everyone eternally.
I have many memories with you that I will cherish forever. I remember when you were living in the Swaminarayan Hospital in Vadtal. I remember when I stayed with you when you were at Gorwa Baroda Hospital quarters. I remember when you were studying at MS University in Baroda and every time when you visited Palaj, you bought and left medicine with me for sharing with people. I had great joy in being called “Arvindbhai’s Compounder” because I was distributing medicine to others around our street. I also remember when I lived in Hammonton, NJ and you helped me and my family a lot when we migrated to America - which we will never forget.
There are a lot of lessons to learn from you. You always had a smile on your face and I never saw you angry or sad. You were born to serve your family and community - you spent your entire life serving others until your last day. Your life was simple, selfless, and humble. You were a legend and have left a mark in everyone’s life.
The sudden loss of you have caused me and my family great sorrow and shock. The emptiness cannot be fulfilled eternally. With heavy heart, with bowed head, and with wet eyes, our billions of prostrations to your soul.
We pray to Harikrishna Maharaj to give your soul peace in Akshar Dham.
Pravinabhabhi, Prashant, Neema, Kishan, Rhea, Arianna, and Rohan. We offer you our deepest sympathies and condolences.

Dear Patel Family,
We are extremely grieved to learn the news of sudden passing away of Dr. Arvindbhai.
We offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathies for this grievous bereavement. We know condolences in such cases have not much effect to alleviate such mental pain; only passage of time slowly reduces the pain and grief. But, this occurs as per God’s wish and we human beings cannot do anything and are helpless. We can only submit to the God’s wish.
Dr. Arvindbhai was my family doctor since 2001. He was loving and caring and took time with each patient — to listen, examine and really get to know each one. He would spend sufficient time on a physical exam, and he even called to patients to follow up on lab results. He was a rare amalgam of cutting-edge knowledge and old-fashioned practice.
He was the kind of doctor the health care system needs more of. Dr. Arvindbhai “listened to patient’s heart with his heart,” which I thought was beautiful. He was also very careful with prescribing medication and kept track of any drug interactions. He really took his role as the patient’s primary physician seriously — like the captain of a ship. Dr. Arvindbhai was such an incredible person. No one can ever replace him.
We pray to the God to grant the peace to the departed soul and sufficient strength to Patel family & all dear and near ones.

there isn’t a single major childhood memory without you. You bought us our first pet, our parakeet. You didn’t know how our parents would react but you didn’t care. It was worth the smiles. Only awesome uncles do that! Thank you for always making us laugh, your dry sense of humor was one of a kind. Your one liner that came out of left field and may have made no sense but somehow, we would be laughing so hard (“ I love what you do for me Toyota”). It was hard not to smile around you but because you just never took anything seriously, even if we gave you plenty of reasons to get mad. Thank you for being my first doctor, making sure our well being was taken care of. I will always cherish that laugh. You will be missed but never forgotten. Rest In Peace uncle. - love always

Arvind uncle - You were ONE of a kind; not too many can compare. I loved being around you and will keep my memories with you dear to my heart. Whenever you were in the room, I always made sure I came to you first to say hello; that's how much I respected you. You were such a care taker and our pediatrician for many of us when we were young. When you and my dad got together at any gathering, both of you would always be together and nothing could separate you two. You both enjoyed each others company so much and would laugh for hours! My dad lost his best friend and we all lost someone who was very impactful to our lives. I remember spending many summers at your house; for months at a time. You were my dad during those summer months. I looked forward to come to Hasbrouck Heights every summer. Thank you for the great memories and being a huge part of my life. I'll never forget you always.. and I mean ALWAYS asking me "Shiel, how do you feel?" I will deeply miss you Arvind uncle!!

Jai Swaminarayan
I could say or write for hours about my friend; but if I had to describe Arvind in one sentence, then it is what Riya Arianna and Rohan very aptly and perfectly put as “Rare a person he is.”
That tells everything about him. He was a perfect Gentleman, very simple, very innocent, and down to earth. All of you would agree that no one had ever seen him to be angry at any time. He was very accommodative, honest, nondemanding, and always contended. He hardly complained about anything in life.
We have seen in him a truly devoted husband, a very loving father of Bholu, Kishan, and Neema, and a great, caring, and loving Dada for Riya, Arianna and Rohan. We also had witnessed in him a caring son of Moniba and also a responsible brother.
We all are very fortunate to have a unique friend in him. His openness, innocent and loving nature, and personality made him a true and trustworthy friend.
Out friendship, mutual trust, mutual love, and mutual respect had no boundaries.
Uncountable memories of time spent together flow in our minds.
A friendship of 53 years grew stronger and stronger as time passed by, becoming a very close friendly and brotherly relationship.
Being in the same profession and practice of pediatrics, the same deep faith in Swaminarayan Bhagwan, similar interest in Gujarati literature and poetry, similar dietary strictures, and simpleness of life had made our bond very strong.
Being a staunch devotee and having deep faith and bhakti in Lord Swaminarayan, no doubt exists in my mind that after leaving this PARTHIV (Physical) body, he is sitting in the abode of Akshardham with extreme permanent bliss and happiness. We pray to Almighty God to keep him eternally in His service.
Right from the time I knew him until this moment and forever in the future, my beloved friend will never be forgotten. He will always live in Dhanoo’s and my heart.
Dear Pravinabhabi, Bholu, Neema, and Kishan, we are all with you, and together we suffer our loss.
Let us all pray together to Almighty Swaminarayan Bhagwan to give courage and strength to withstand the loss of our loved one.
Jai Swaminarayan.

Genuine, trustworthy, respectful, selfless, tireless, kind, caring, sensitive, loving, joyful, understanding are just a few of many great attributes that anyone can use to describe Motapapa. Simple living and high thinking - he had lived his entire life with this motto.
Motapapa had always treated us siblings as his own children. He always cared about us a lot. We are devastated to lose him and he will be missed deeply. We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Arvindmasa. He will truly be missed. He is loved by everyone he knew and was a true-role model. He had a tremendous heart and mind. I remember the many summers I spent at his home with Prashant and Kishan when I was younger. I remember the one weekend, we decided on a whim to rip out all the carpet at 308 Myers Avenue and re-finish the hardwood floors. He was always ready for adventure, no matter what it may be. He lived life to the fullest, had no regrets, and seized each day with the company of his family and friends. My dearest Arvindbhai,
My heart is broken into a million pieces, I just cant believe your gone. You was a father, husband, son, uncle, cousin and my 'brother'. If I close my eyes, I can still see your wonderful smile full of sunshine, joy and happiness.
Growing up, we had so many joyous years together, more than I can count, sadly we have been robbed of many more.
You was kind, caring always ready to help those in need, so becoming a doctor was the obvious path in life - I'm so proud of you and of your hard work and dedication as I know this wasnt always easy. I remember one occasion when you came to England for the first time to study at Liverpool University, you wept saying you didn't enjoy it, but regardless, you kept trying and persevered.
I will always be grateful you looked after our mum so thank you.
Writing this message fills me such sorrow as all I have now is our memories like when we went to Udaipur and Jaipur and the times I brought my children to New Jersey. I enjoyed seeing the Swaminarayan Mandir. Not forgetting Niagara Falls was simply magical. Our recent trip to Sweden was lovely as it was my first holiday to a country other than India or America.
I am grateful for these precious memories, but I will miss our conversations on the phone.
The last time I saw you was when I came to see ba - my heart hurts to think this was the last time I would see you both.
I pray you are at peace now, bless your soul, a loving son with ba and bapuji again.
God bless everyone
Your loving sister Meena, Jagdish and Family xxxxx

My heart is still heavy as I am not able to fathom the sudden unexpected loss of motapappa. Such a cheerful person taken away too soon. Someone who always found humor every situation. One such vivid memory comes to mind...
Many years ago, motapappa had come to our home in India with a giant video recorder. So big & heavy, he had to put it on his shoulders. I was very small trying to keep frogs away from my home. Motapappa came over with the video recorder & giggled. He said he was very impressed that I was not afraid of the frogs.
Once we moved to America & went to his home, motapappa took us to see NY skyline but most importantly, the twin towers. This memory is especially important to me because the following year the twin towers were attacked. Had motapappa not taken us to see them the previous year, we would've never seen them.
During summer breaks, motapappa invited us over to his home. He took us to the movies & restaurants. Motapappa took the bore out of our summer breaks & made them fun and bearable!
I could've never thought that I was seeing you for the last time when we met at the Palaj picnic last summer.
Thank you for being caring, supportive motapappa.
You will be missed dearly but I have faith that you are at peace in a much better place.
Jay shri swaminarayan.

To my dearest Arvindmama,
.......we have lost a kind soul and our hearts are forever broken, I will miss you deeply.
Most of all I will miss that little chuckle you did after every sentence, always happy, always full of spirit.
I'm so sad I didn't get to see one last time, its seems like a lifetime ago now since we practically travelled the world together. You kindly included me on your Europe tour of which I loved every minute, I am truly blessed and grateful to have those memories together, you welcomed me with open arms at your home in New Jersey and our adventures in India will forever be cherished.
It isn't fair we lost you, I hope you are at peace now and I pray everyone dear to your heart can find a way to cope.
You selflessly looked after ba, our only comfort is that you are once again reunited with ba and dada.
Love you so much.

My earliest memory with Motapappa was when I was about 6 years old in India. I remember he always bought us toys and goodies every time he visited. I remember when I was being mischievous, everyone threatened me that Motapappa is a doctor and he would give me an injection for being bad. But I knew at the bottom of my heart that he was my Motapappa and he would never do such a thing. Instead, I was being even more naughty because I was always happy to see him and was curious what he bought for me. I remember, Motapappa and Motimummy bringing us Lucky Charms cereal. I was that guy that filled my bowl with the cereal, stole all the marshmallows, and put the rest back into the cereal box when no one was looking. My favorite Lucky Charm shape was the rainbow because of its colors.
Motapappa's life was just like a rainbow, filled with beautiful colors. He was like a prism that took something simple and turned it into something beautiful. He was an inspiration to many that sought to teach selfless and determination to everyone around him. He's the only person that I felt safe seating next to when someone drove. Even though rides with him were like roller coaster (gas, brake, gas, brake), he was the safest driver because he cared for everyone of his passengers. His commentaries were the most memorable. I remember when he was taking me to Ganesh Dosa as a kid and another car was trying to turn in front of us, he says "This kid is going to drive over us". We spent the entire dinner laughing at that and I ended up spilling the rasam twice. Everyone felt that beautiful aura when around him - an aura that we still feel from him as he is looking down upon us from Akshar Dham.

Arvinduncle was one of the sweetest, kindest, and most genuine people I know. I have a lot of childhood memories of him and remember spending countless weekends at his house... he was a simple person and his faith was very important to him yet he was not overbearing and would still go to Carvel with us as kids and ask kindly if there were eggs in the ice cream and get it for us even if he didn’t get it for himself. He was totally selfless. It’s one thing to call someone selfless but he truly was and showed it constantly. He pierced my ears in the kitchen of the Hasbrouck Heights house and I remember being so scared cause I knew it was going to hurt and I asked him how bad it hurts and I was expecting him to lie and say it doesn’t or it’s just a prick but I remember him saying it does hurt but it will go away and I believed him. He was very trustworthy and genuine.
The one thing I will always remember was his laugh, he would laugh after most things he would say whether it was funny or not. I never really thought about it much before when I was younger besides thinking it was cute and kind of funny until I heard that he passed away. The second I heard he was gone, I was overcome with sadness and then started to think about his laugh. I realized that it was his way of always having such a carefree attitude towards life and making everyone around him feel that way too. That laugh wasn’t cute or kind of funny, it was him showing himself to whoever he was around that life is best to be lived carefree. That’s definitely a lesson he has taught to me and I’m sure he is up there with my Dad hopefully continuing to laugh. Live laugh love. ❤️ You will be missed.

Arvind dada was a role model for us all. He will remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and dedication to others. He truly cared about each member of his family.
This summer, I stayed at his home for a week. I had to opportunity to go to work with him and see how he truly cares for all his patients. At home, he would make sure I felt comfortable and had enough to eat, offering me ice cream every night. He even took me to Famous Pizza in the pouring rain.
We remember a time when we went to Knoebel’s Amusement Park with Arvind dada and the kids. He only went on one ride, not knowing that at the end he would get splashed with water.
His love and care for his family and the community will be dearly missed by all.

To our wonderful Arvind Fua,
The pillars of our family are our fois and fuas. We spent so many holidays, weekends, new years celebrations, and raksha bhandhans in your home. You always treated us like your own children, and always made sure we were fed (sometimes far too much by Pravina Foi), and usually had to chase us around to give us our flu vaccine ever year as children. You always allowed us to cause a ruckus in your basement, and sometimes even helped us find good hiding spots in a game of hide-and-go seek. We loved spending time with you, watching hilarious Whatsapp videos about Modi, and hearing your vibrant laugh. You will be dearly missed by all of us.
Sincerely,
Neeti, Divya, and Bhavin

Arvindmasa was great uncle and father figure to me. My earliest childhood memories of him was when he bought me my first bicycle when I was in high school. When I was living with him, he treated me like his own son. When I visited him, he always asked me fix something in his house. As a pediatrician I could always count on him to help when my kids are sick, no matter when and where. Now that he is gone we always miss him. His life was a blessing and his memory a treasure.

For those who knew Arvindlal, knew him to be a selfless, simple, and caring man. He always put family first. When Arvindlal and Pravina were married, I was only in the 7th grade. He was an older brother, and almost a father figure in my life.
When Bhavin was born, it was Arvindlal who supported me during a time of great uncertainty and confusion regarding his diagnosis. He was the first person to notice Bhavin's condition, start treatment, and provided me with unwavering support. Bhavin would not be who he is without Arvindlal.
Over the years and changing times, Arvindlal always stayed simple and humble. We always knew him to wear a clean blue collared shirt with a pen in the upper pocket. Even though he never drank, he once tried his luck at the store to purchase beer for me when I was doing handywork at his house. Little did he know, he accidentally purchased whiskey, thinking it was beer. Even though it was the thought that counted, this brought a good laugh to us both.
I see so much of Arvindlal in Bholu and Kishan, they have inherited all of these traits from their father. He continues to live in the footprint he made in everyone's lives, and the memories of him will never fade.
