Obituary of Dr. Arvindbhai Patel

Dr. Arvindbhai Ishwarbhai Patel was born on March 16th, 1948 and passed away on April 27th, 2020 at the age of 72. He was born in meager surroundings in the small village of Palaj in India. As a small child, he was very precocious. He read every book in the village library and always excelled as the top student in his class throughout school. His work ethic and intelligence brought him to MS University Baroda in 1968 where he again excelled in his studies and graduated with distinction as a Doctor of Medicine. Shortly after graduating medical school, he was introduced to the love of his life in 1974, Pravinaben Patel, and they were soon married. After marriage, they moved to a small farming community Khadal where he provided medical care to an under-served community. Serving the under-served became a theme in his wonderful life, as he would always be there for those in need. In 1976, they announced the birth of a baby boy, Prashant Patel. After working a few more years in India, they made the decision to move to America to provide a better life for their family. In 1980, they arrived in New Jersey. After struggling for some time finding residency placement, his persistence paid off and he landed a Pediatric residency position at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. Working long hours on little food and sleep and small wages, he struggled but never gave up as he was determined to support his family. Another baby boy was born in 1982, Kishan Patel, at the very hospital where he worked. After residency, he opened up an office in the Bronx to continue to serve an underprivileged community. It is there where he continued to work for nearly 37 years providing medical care to those in need. He had many interests and hobbies including poetry, music, travelling the world, watching classic Bollywood cinema, and Indian politics to name a few. But above all, he dedicated his entire life to family and put that above all else. He is survived by his beautiful wife - Pravinaben Patel, 2 loving sons - Dr. Prashant and Dr. Kishan Patel, a beloved daughter-in-law - Neema Patel, and three of the most amazing and adoring grandchildren any grandfather can ask for - Rhea Patel, Arianna Patel, and Rohan Patel. He is also survived by 7 wonderful and caring brothers and sisters - Vimuben, Vindodbhai, Sharmisthaben, Meenaben, Ashokbhai, Vikrambhai, and Varshaben Patel. He was preceded by his parents, Ishwarbhai and Maniben Patel, who instilled in him such strength and courage that nothing could ever shake his indomitable will and determination. His faith was also very important to him and we know now he is resting in perfect peace and harmony, in eternal bliss with Lord Shree Swaminarayan and we ask for His blessings to keep him safe and sheltered until the end of time.
