Florence was our family's neighbor for over 30 years. She & Pete loved their house at the shore and Florence enjoyed walking to the boardwalk and all over town, stopping to chat with friends and strangers. After Pete passed away, a little light left her, but she continued her walks and chats, but would always say "I have had a wonderful life, but I am ready whenever God chooses to take me, since I only want to be with Pete". As she grew older, we grew closer and I enjoyed our chats about a myriad of topics.. family...my life, her life, how dedicated she was to her children and grandchildren, and most of all, her love & trust in God. When she started using a cane and then a walker for her town travels, she feared those assist items made her look "old". I would say to her "you ARE old" and she would give that fun laugh that she had. When Florence began to need help in some areas of her life, my husband and I were glad to be there for her. With Florence, it was never about "her", it was always about the other person. One of the times she needed an ambulance at her house, she was sitting (half-conscious) on a chair, surrounded by the EMT crew and I heard her weak voice telling me to "get the guys some cold water"! Florence was a strong and stubborn member of the Greatest Generation and she has happily taken that final step to the place that she has always felt safest and happiest.....beside her beloved Pete and her God. Rest well, my good friend.
