To the family and loved ones of Scott Louis Nelson: I learned of Scott's death through our Fraternity Magazine THE SPHINX. I remember Scott from his days as a student at ISU where I taught African American Studies and Music. He was a bright and energetic student leader. I am not surprised to learn that he was active in his church and made substantial contributions to his Profession. I am very pleased that he knew his identity and made contributions to humanity as an African American man. Undoubtedly he was SAVED! Therefore, his saved loved ones shall see him when the last Trumpet sounds. Indeed, that will be glorious day.

I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing. I knew him from Jersey City Medical center where he was my supervisor in the children's program. Scott was a kind an gentle man, always lending support. I was surprised, when years later, we reconnected in Bergen County. It was always nice seeing him and sharing a quick hello. I wish your family peace and solace at this difficult time.

I only had a professional relationship with Scott, he was my clinical supervisor for the past two years. Today was the day that I was to complete my work with Scott, and I was looking forward to sharing my accomplishments with him.
Even though we had a professional relationship, our conversations at times would be blunt, funny and heat felt. He was a great mentor, and someone I shall always consider a friend.

This earth has lost an angel. My heart breaks for you - his family, friends and his clients.
I worked with Scott at Children's Aid & Family Services. He was such a kind and encouraging colleague and therapist. He has certainly impacted the lives of so many in a positive way.

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength." Scott encapsulated this to its truest definition. It was only paralleled by his intellect and unique sense of humor. I met Scott in 2009 while working at CAFS and feel deeply fortunate to have known him. Although he always had a joke or funny anecdote to share, his clinical, cultural and historical knowledge was an amazing contribution to our team, program and notably to me. Being humble he might not have known the mark he left on those whose lives he touched!
My deepest condolences to his family.

Our deepest condolences to the late, Scott Louis Nelson family. This truly saddens my heart, when we heard the news that a brother was gone. Our Brother, our friend, our family, these are some of the things that we know of the late Scott, “Uncle Buddy”. He has shared over 40+ years in my life. He was my Roommate in college, he was my Best Man in my wedding, he was a wonderful father to Javiel, and he was a true Uncle, to our three children. He was my “Brother” we didn’t have the same parents but, Mrs. Genie & Mr. Charles, always treated me and my wife, as if we where family. Life not be the same without you my brother, I thank you for call my wife, Terries weekly when she was in the hospital for three months. I thank you for attending Zauhn’s Colgate football games, when we couldn’t attend. Sharing stories and special drink recipes with Zaria, and you and Julia hanging out with Zane, at his graduation party as he prepares to go to Shepherd University to play Football. Thank you. Scott, I know that you know this, but thank you. Thank you for being my brother and my friend, for all that you You Gave To Me, Brother.

Mr. Scott Nelson was my invaluable supervisor, mentor and friend at Children’s Aid and Family Services, Therapeutic Supervised Visitation Program. As a young clinician, Scott played a major role in forming my independence, and self-confidence, as a professional, and just in life in general. Throughout my time at CAFS, Scott was the ultimate coach. He handled our team with grace, courage and kindness. Thanks to Scott, we were given the freedom and opportunity to grow into the clinicians that we were born to be. As Ken Griffey Jr. once said, “as long as I can have fun playing, the stats will take care of itself.” Thank you Scott, for allowing us to have fun while “in the field.” The environment you provided, and the creativity you allowed, has been a blessing to us all. Thank you for being our coach Scott, we are the luckiest clinicians in the league to have had you. May you live on forever through your words and wisdom that live inside each and everyone of us.

Scott is my cousin and he was a very special person. He spoke softly but his presence greatly filled a room; especially when he laughed...and we spent a lot of time laughing!! Although we didn't see each other as much as we should have; we kept in touch by phone and occasionally we would meet for lunch in NYC when his work brought him into lower Manhattan. We would laugh and talk about family members that had passed on long ago. We both appreciated the stories, treasured the memories and respected the lessons they taught us. I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that he is gone; but understand that we will meet again one day. Rest in heaven cousin...you are now among the angels who look over us. Namaste!! Peace and condolences to our family

Scott and I worked together at CAFS for almost 4 years. He was one of the first people I met there when I started and I'll always remember how welcome he made me feel. He was kind, funny, and never failed to make me feel appreciated for all the work we did together. I'll miss him popping his head into my office whether to ask me a question or just to say hello. I'll also miss our chats in the kitchen over our morning coffee usually about both of our love of traveling. Anyone who knew him in our office loved him and I am truly blessed we crossed paths. I pray for his family and friends in this difficult time and send my sympathy. Rest in Peace to a great coworker and friend, he will never be forgotten and greatly missed.

Scott and I worked together from 2009 to 2017 at Children's Aid and Family Services. He was one of the kindest, calmest, most compassionate men I ever met, and I enjoyed working with him very much. We spoke often about his sons, of whom he was very proud and he liked to talk about their talents and achievements. He was also vastly knowledgeable about music. Scott touched many lives with a light and loving hand, he will be missed by me and many others. May his soul rest in peace.

Scott was a treasured member of our church, United Church of Christ, Congregational in Plainfield. He always sat in the same pew he had shared with his father, Charles for many years . Javiel attended Sunday School here and Scott was very proud of his artistic ability.
When our Sanctuary was closed last Spring Scott participated in our Sunday Worship on Zoom.
We were saddened beyond measure to learn of his passing. We will never forget all that he contributed to our congregation and he will long be remembered in thoughts and prayers.
Condolences to his family.... Rest In Peace, Scott

I was a colleague of Scott's at Children's Aid and Family Services. He was a kind, gentle man with a good sense of humor. He was always positive and smiling. I had a few opportunities to speak with him beyond work-related topics, and learned about his love for his family, love to travel, and his love of sports. He was an interesting man with great depth and introspection. He was a well seasoned clinician and supervisor, who oved his work and contributed to the field of counseling, as a clinician, director, and professor. May he rest in peace. Poem "These We Remember"
This a fearful thing
To love
What death can touch.
To love, to hope, to dream,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
Love,
But a holy thing,
To love what death can touch.
For your life has live in me;
Your laugh once lifted me;
Your word was a gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
Tis a human thing, love,
A holy thing,
To love
What death can touch.
