We are probably one of the newest friends although I am sure many more came after us as Carmen and Ida are so welcoming, warm and loving people. Kevin and I met Carmen and Ida nine years ago in 2012 where we shared the Penthouse floor at Presidential Place. We will always cherish the times we got together over the years. Great company, conversation and always laughter. Carmen will be missed dearly. Our love and heartfelt sympathy to Ida and their loving family.

An open letter…
I began courting Carmen and Ida’s daughter Claudia away at college during our sophomore year. We married 5 years later which to this day remains the most wonderful period of my life - We feel blessed that many of you reading this were with us on that special day. Carmen and Ida gave us a fairytale wedding and party like no other. It was truly magical. And then, through the grace of GOD the love of my life became my wife, and I was to be “made” part of the Antonelle family. Some would later say Carmen gave me an offer I could not refuse (lol), but the truth is I was the luckiest man alive.
Being of Swedish descent he often referred to me as the Norwegian, a shot of affection really and to be candid, I secretly loved it. Estranged from my own father for the better part of my life, Carmen took up the role of both a father, and a father-in-law. I referred to him as Dad from the first day, but I do regret terribly not having the courage to tell him my feelings, that as a young man he was fulfilling both roles for me. We never spoke of it, but as I pray, my heart tells me that he recognized the pain and discomfort I had growing up, and he and my mother-in-law Ida, and the entire Antonelle family showed me what family and belonging to one was really all about, and what a wonderful gift it is to be welcomed into and made part of it, a bond of love, caring, forgiveness and support that was never ending…. Who am I to be so fortunate?
The food was amazing. We had dinner at Carmen and Ida’s house every Thursday. For a time, all of us kids lived in town and this became a beloved tradition for us all. We talked, argued, laughed, and loved. I recall Carmen would tell me stories, ones that tended to be repeated over and over. I recall thinking to myself; this guy is losing it; I just heard this same story last week! BUT Carmen knew all too well what he was doing. These stories contained important life lessons for us, and to ensure we learned them, as he did before us, they were meant to be repeated, and told often. I do wish I could hear just one more story… I wish I listened more intently and asked more questions…. I wish…
Once the pool went in, Carmen and Ida put on wonderful swim parties for the family almost every weekend. We only needed to show up and it was as if we were on holiday, away from our troubles, if just for a day. I miss these parties so very much. If only we could have one last holiday together…One last swim together.
Dad, I love you. I am so very humble and grateful to have known you and to have been loved by you. You have helped to make me that man I am today. I will continue to care for your special daughter and my family with all my love and mite to the end of my days. Please know this to be true…
Carmen’s love, his generosity, his faith in GOD, his wisdom, his charity, his humor, his support, his selflessness, his larger-than-life persona….they are ALL beyond measure. HE was the Tide in the family that raised ALL boats, just as he always intended. I love you Dad….rest in peace

Uncle Carmen was a remarkable individual with an amazing wit and an engaging, warm personality - such a charming, caring family man. Words fall short of expressing our deepest sorrow for his passing. We were privileged to call him family and he will always be remembered with a broad smile because he effortlessly brought so much happiness and joy to us all.
The photo attached is one of our favorites - when he was a young man with his parents Albert and Lena and his sister Joan.
