Obituary of Joseph Curham
Joseph (Joe) Curham, age 56, passed away on March 6, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Somerset in Somerville, NJ. Joe was born and raised in Newark, NJ, later moving to Hillside where he graduated from Hillside High School. Joe attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English.
Joe has been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over thirty years, having worked in the Plainfield, Warren and Watchung areas. He was also a former trustee of the letter carrier’s union.
Joe enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a fervent reader, especially of fantasy novels. Joe’s big, generous heart and quiet demeanor belied a keen sense of humor. His dry, timely quips lightened the room and could melt even the coldest icebergs.
Joe is predeceased by his parents Gerald and Mary (Duffy) Curham and two sisters, Kathy Curham and Mary Rose Curham.
Joe is survived by his siblings: Jerry Curham; Jack Curham and his wife, Pam; Peggy Coakley and her significant other, Dan Anderson; Jim Curham and his wife, Paula; and Pat Curham and his wife, Cathy. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews: Katie and Kyle Curham; Michael Coakley and his wife, Hannah; Samantha and Megan Curham.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 11th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung. Entombment will follow immediately at St Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
