Sister Jane contributed significantly to the formation of my two sons who attended Saint Dominic School while she was the principal. She was a forward-thinking professional and dedicated educator who did much to transform Saint Dominic into one of the best schools in the Diocese of Trenton. Thank you, Sister Jane, for all you did in this life to make a difference and may you Rest In Peace in eternal life.

Always Janie to me, the younger cousin. I remember being at the Mount as a kid when she took her final vows. I remember traveling with the family to the Mount, Sayreville and South Plainfield to visit her during her early spiritual calling.
The photo is from when Janie crowned the statue of Mary at Our Lady of Sorrows Church when she was a senior in high school.
I rejoice that she is now with God in heaven.

Karl, thank you so much for the stirring tribute. And I love the picture…so beautiful & evocative of the era. (I think Jane in the pic may be wearing my mother Pauline’s wedding dress from her 1951 marriage to my dad, Jack Hughes!)
Much appreciated. Take care.

In 1996, I was introduced to Sr. Jane by our mutual friend, Pat Kelly. Shortly thereafter, Sister hired me to teach at St. Dominic School, Brick, NJ. Over the years, she earned my deepest respect, esteem and friendship. She was a wonderful role model, didn't 'back down' and always had 'my back'. She taught me many good lessens which I applied to my teaching practices.
I have been honored and privileged to have had her in my life. Rest in peace dear Sister.
May God grant her family peace and strength.
Respectfully,
Agatha Emmer

Sister Jane, Aunt Janie to me and my three brothers (John, Chris, and Jim), was a devoted aunt and beloved sister to our late mother, Pauline (Veldof) Hughes. She was devoted to her many nephews and nieces, her entire extended family, her country and community, and to the Mother Church. And she always took care of her brothers, as well: John (Jerry) and David Veldof, currently of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
— Above all, Aunt Jane was devoted to the Sisters of Mercy and to the Sisters’ mission of education and support to the poor.
On behalf of myself, my wife Sandy, our family, and all of Jane’s devoted nephews and nieces, I offer our condolences to Jane’s many friends and to all the Sisters of Mercy. God bless you all. And thank you for what you do for. (Special thanks to Sister Irene Gormley, RSM, for her devoted and tireless end-of-life support to Jane and Jane’s family.)
It is our collective Faith that Jane very soon will be reunited in Heaven with her mother, Pauline; her father, John (who used to sing “you are my sunshine” to her when she was a little girl); her loving sister, Pauline; her devoted brother-in-law, Jack; her kind-hearted sister-in-law Marilyn; and her faithful friend and partner in education, Mary Lavin, RSM, who preceded her in death.
With love, sympathy, prayers, and appreciation,
Michael Hughes

So many wonderful memories of Aunt Jane and Aunt Mary together. Their trips with your Mom were certainly some of the best stories told. I am certain they are enjoying the reunion together and she was welcomed by so many who went before her. She will be missed dearly but will remain forever in our hearts and our memories. Sending prayers to you and all of the family - Anne Marie Lavin
