Sr. Joan was a radiant friend and neighbor, one who listened deeply, laughed with pleasure, and lived life in a way that we found inspiring. She was a grand companion and true friend. She had a way of bringing together strangers and turning them into a community. In her various hospital stays, her nurses and doctors were aware of her past career and honored her for her work. Even in her most vulnerable moments, she brought people together and connected them. We consider our friendship to be a great gift to us, surely one of the greatest of our lives, and we will miss her deeply. We send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all her Sisters.

Sister Joan was a shining star of love while here on earth, spreading love, kindness and hope wherever she went. I miss her greatly but will keep her awesome, gentle spirit close to my heart.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Sister Joan's passing. I am sure she and her great and dear friend, Bishop John McCarthy, are in deep conversations in Heaven. Joan was a valiant soul with a brilliant mind. I remember her great joy celebrating St. Patrick's Day as we watched the local Irish dance school. Not one for computers and such, she was a "people person". She had such spirit and determination. I will miss our little talks and meeting at Central Market. What a light and great spirit she was. Rest in Peace, dear Joan. God bless you. Thank you for gracing this earth.
