Dear Betsy, Ben and Tim,
I was so saddened when I read the Alfred Magazine and learned of Wayne's passing. What an incredibly kind, generous, honest and fun-loving man! Betsy, in you he found the love of his life, and may your memories of Wayne and all that you shared, bring you peace and comfort.

Ellen and I were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Wayne’s recent passing. Heartfelt condolences to his family. I was a close friend of Wayne’s in high school and remember him, his parents and his sister Linda fondly. I spent a great deal of quality time at their house…it was like a second home to me. We kept in touch for a number of years. We were honored that Wayne and Betsy attended our wedding. But as is too often the case, we eventually lost contact as we started families and launched careers. Lately I’ve been on a quest to reconnect with old friends. Much to my dismay, time ran out before I was able to get back in touch with Wayne. I’m not at all surprised to see that Wayne is remembered as an inspiration to colleagues and students and a true gentleman. Rest in peace old friend.

To Wayne's wife and sons:
My sincere condolences on the passing of your husband and father. I came to know Wayne during my first two terms on the WHRHS Board of Education. He was a special teacher and person. He was both an example and a leader as one of the outstanding and extraordinarily dedicated faculty members who have made WHRHS such an outstanding school for the children of our four towns. He will be missed by all of us. I hope that you will take some comfort in the wonderful impact he had on WHRHS and so many of its students.

Thirty years may have passed, but I still vividly remember Mr. Lee’s bright smile and enthusiastic encouragement. He was my favorite teacher, and whenever I read books that I enjoy, I often think of him and his fostering my love of literature. I will be forever grateful for his investment in my life.
He was a born teacher who was given the gift of relating to students, not just educating them. His passing is a great loss to his family, and to humanity. I will pray for you in this time of broken heartedness.

How very sad I was to learn of Wayne's passing. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Lee as my freshman English teacher, and it was his very first year as a teacher at Watchung Hills. He was so engaging, passionate and funny. He inspired me to love literature, poetry and writing. I will remember him always and send my deepest sympathy to his wife and children. What a wonderful man to have so close to you all these years.

Mr. Lee, You are one of my all time favorite teachers! So much so, that I grew up to become an English teacher just like yourself. As students we don't remember what you said, or exactly what you taught us, but we do remember the way you made us feel. You made us feel wonderful about ourselves Mr. Lee, and we are eternally grateful for the life lessons, and the appreciation for literature that you gave us. I am so saddened to hear the news of your passing, I hope your family finds comfort in knowing that you live on through us, your students, and that we are making the world a better place because of you.

Mr Lee was my favorite teacher in high school. He inspired me to read, question, and believe in myself. Everything that I am proud of in myself today started with his spark. Thank you Mr. Lee for being a part of my life and shoving Shakespeare down my throat until it became a second language.

Wayne was one of the first teachers I spoke with at WHRHS in 1999. We suffered through many NY Mets seasons, and many a discussion regarding the team. A great teacher and good man. Rest in peace.

Wayne Lee was my freshman English teacher. He has been an inspiration to me from the day we met. He had an uncanny knack for being able to really talk and listen to students. I will never forget how forward I looked to being in his classroom. I am so lucky to have known him and Betsy over the years. He was so happy and fulfilled in his life and so proud of Ben and Tim. I will miss him dearly, but, like so many other people he touched, the spirit of the man we all knew will live on. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I met Wayne the day that Melissa and Ben graduated from Alfred University. I felt that we had a connection since my husband and I were also from New York. I am so proud that we met him and Betsy and lucky for us Melissa and Ben married. It is a wonderful legacy to have raised such fabulous boys. Bob and I have fond memories of the Lee family.

Wayne was a longtime colleague at WHRHS.Many anecdotes including a visit to China when he had issues with the government due to the length of his hair! I prefer to remember the lighter moments while extending to all of you my sympathy at this time in the hope that you as well will come to enjoy this type of recollection.
