Obituary of Wayne Lee

Wayne Lee, age 67, died on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York. Born in New York City, he grew up in Hempstead, LI before moving to Fanwood thirty-five years ago. Mr. Lee graduated from Alfred University with a BA, and did graduate work at NYU. He was a teacher at Watchung Hills Regional High School, from 1969 until his retirement in 2009. Wayne taught English, The Visual Image, Journalism and was adviser for The Arrowhead. He was President of the local chapter of the teachers union and was faculty advisor to the Asian American Club. He was the Advancement Chairman for The Boy Scouts, Troop 104, of Scotch Plains and helped both his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He also coached FYO Baseball in Fanwood. From 1977-1987, Wayne and Betsy owned and operated the Quimby Street Book Shop in Westfield, NJ with their business partner and longtime friend Sam Testa. Wayne enjoyed spending his summer vacations at his home in Old Forge, NY. He also enjoyed literature, film, photography and above all else, his beloved NY Mets. Surviving is his loving wife of thirty-nine years Elizabeth Lee; his son Benjamin Lee and his wife Melissa; his son Timothy Lee; his granddaughter Munroe Olivia Lee; his loyal golden retriever Scout; and his sister Linda Lee. Visitation will be on Friday, June 27th, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held on Monday at Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge, NY.
