Dear Forrest, Laura and Rona,
It’s been a long time since we met and I know how deeply you are feeling the loss of your beautiful Mom right now. Please accept our deepest condolences at this difficult time. I’d like to share a happy memory I have of first meeting your Mom, Aunt Madge, about 50 years ago when I was a boy and she visited all the family in Dumbarton, Scotland. There was a big gathering one night in Aunt Margaret’s house and all the sisters were there with husbands and families. As the night progressed, everyone started singing their party pieces. Eventually Madge, Betty, Mina, Margaret, Mamie and our mum, Ellen got together in a huddle and sang ‘Sisters’, an old 50s hit from White Christmas. All the sisters had a blast that night - the lyrics are hysterical, watch it on YouTube and you will laugh. The punch line in the song is ‘There were never such devoted sisters’ which was absolutely true for them. Despite all the miles apart, they all stayed close by writing, phone calls and occasional overseas trips. They and their brothers Jim, John and Pat were a wonderful family and we miss them all. I hope we can all meet up some time and celebrate their wonderful lives. God bless for now.
