Obituary of Gisela Gresitza
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gisela Gresitza on December 16th, 2022 at the age of 92.
Gisela “Gigi” Gresitza was born in Babelsberg, Germany on November 1, 1930. Gigi and her husband, Heinzi, came to the US in the early 50’s and eventually settled in New Jersey. She was a loving wife, mother, homemaker, entrepreneur, gourmet cook, world traveler, and skier. She was always determined to perfect anything she put her mind to. Whether she was cooking, entertaining, sewing dresses for her two daughters, painting, knitting, decorating, or anything to do with fashion; everything had to be just right. As an avid reader, she always surprised us with her diverse knowledge. She loved music and was always the first and last person on the dance floor. Gigi and Heinzi traveled the world with their friends and family, experiencing the fullness of all that life had to give. They shared an amazing life and marriage. Her big heart and her ability to care for others was proven through her lifelong friendships. Her faith gave her strength during the challenges she faced in life. She would want family and friends to remember her as “the stylish and classy German lady who loved sharing good food, drinks, music, laughter, and dancing with good company.” What a recipe for good living!
With her own elegant style and classy look, she founded Gisele’s Unique Shop in 1973 located in Warren, New Jersey. Her determination and hard work as a successful entrepreneur showed through the growth of her small business; from an accessory and gift shop to a staple of unique fashion in Warren and surrounding area. Gigi took her fashion cues from no one, instead she created her own. She always had a keen sense of what would come into Vogue and when to take a hard turn to create the next new thing.
Gigi was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years Heinz Gresitza; her sisters, Edith, Inge and Renate; and her brother Kurt.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sabine Barrett (fiancé Robert) and Sylvia Lee (husband Rhone); her two granddaughters, Brittney Barrett (fiancé Bryan) and Ondine Anderson; her two great-grandsons, Jayden Clarida and Zion Clayton; a new great-granddaughter who is eager to come into this world at the end of December 2022; and all extended family in Germany. Gigi’s legacy lives on in us. Let’s make her proud.
Her caregiver, Maia Grinnell, lovingly cared for her for over 4 years until the end of her life. The family gives her and everyone else who cared for Gigi their greatest and warmest gratitude.
Gigi was beauty, laughter, and light; living life to the fullest. We will forever miss her.
A non-traditional funeral service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
