Obituary of Edward Joseph Glamkowski
Edward Joseph Glamkowski, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born and raised in Brooklyn NY, Edward moved to Warren Township over 50 years ago.
Edward attended Regis High School in Manhattan, NY. Upon graduating from Regis, he received a scholarship to study at Fordham University in NY and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Edward continued his education at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, earning his doctorate in organic chemistry.
Edward began his long, fulfilling career as a research chemist at Merck, Sharp & Dohme Research Laboratories, and then for Hoechst Roussel Pharmacy, Inc. His scientific contributions included many patents and work on a drug to treat schizophrenia which sells in the marketplace today. After his retirement, he became a patent agent and served as an expert witness for a number of years.
In his spare time, Edward enjoyed saltwater fishing and gardening. He was an adventurous foodie who loved trying new restaurants with his family and friends. He had a deep appreciation for the theatre and often went into the city to take in a play or opera. He was also a proud, long-time supporter of Rutgers Athletics.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Glamkowski; three children Diane Briney and her husband William, Catherine Ellis and her husband Kenneth and Edward Glamkowski and his wife Mandy; five grandchildren, Kristen, William, Amelia, Rachel, and Lina. He is also survived by his brother Paul Glamkowski and his wife Marilyn, his brother Peter Glamkowski and his wife Aline, his sister Connie Abruscato and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister, Irene Jones.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Rd., Basking Ridge, NJ.
