Obituary of Richard D. Brotspies

Richard David Brotspies, age 76, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, in Somerset, NJ.  Richard was born and raised in Newark, NJ, and resided in Edison, NJ, for 30 years prior to moving to Whitehouse Station in 2021.

After graduating from Weequahic High School in Newark, Richard went on to further his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning his Bachelor of Arts and attaining a Master’s Degree in Business.

Richard enlisted in the Army Reserves and served his country honorably for six years.

He was the owner of Bradley Graphics in Clark, NJ, for 25 years.

Richard was a classic car and motorcycle enthusiast, a fan of the New York Yankees, and enjoyed playing poker.  He will always be remembered for his after-dinner ritual of having a few Hershey’s Kisses and a bowl of chocolate chip mint ice cream.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Abe Brotspies and Edith (Blank) Brotspies.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Carole Brotspies; his two children, Kevin Brotspies and his wife Alexis and Nicole Meek and her husband Alonzo; his five grandchildren, Hudson Brotspies, Sawyer Brotspies, Sage Brotspies, Sienna Meek, and Kai Meek.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069, followed by a 4:00 pm funeral service at the funeral home. Cremation services were private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
