Obituary of Valerie A. Walters

Valerie A. Walters, age 67, of Rockaway, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Born in Jersey City, Valerie was a spirited soul who grew up in Jersey City and Hillside, New Jersey, before becoming a long-time resident of Plainfield. Five years ago, she moved to Rockaway, where she continued to embrace life with her characteristic vigor.

Valerie A. Walters, a proud alumna of Hillside High School, was known for her practical wisdom and real-world savvy. Her experiences, both in her professional life and personal pursuits, spoke volumes of her intelligence and adaptability. Valerie’s journey, enriched by her hands-on approach to life, demonstrated her strength, resourcefulness, and an ability to meet challenges head-on.

Valerie's career was marked by her dedication and versatility. She worked as a code enforcer at the Mountainside Municipal Office, where her prior experience in operating heavy machinery like bobcats and booms proved invaluable. This experience not only highlighted her unique skill set but also underscored her fearless nature in traditionally male-dominated fields. In later years, she brought her expertise and indomitable spirit to the Borough of Madison as a technical specialist.

Those who knew Valerie will remember her as an independent woman who was never afraid to speak her mind. Her intelligence and energy were boundless, always engaged in activities that brought joy and fulfillment. Her passion for travel led her to explore charming destinations like Newport, Rhode Island, and Cape May, New Jersey, often alongside her beloved fiancé, Andre Dias.

Valerie's culinary skills were another facet of her dynamic personality. She once single-handedly hosted a dinner for thirty people, a feat that showcased her exceptional talent and generous spirit. Her ability to bring people together over a meal will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Valerie leaves behind her loving fiancé, Andre Dias; her brother, Konrad, his wife, Denise; and her niece, Brianna. Her presence will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
