Obituary of David Louis Rosenberg
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of David Louis Rosenberg, of Gillette, New Jersey, on July 19, 2024, at the age of 73 years.
Born in Somerville in 1951 and raised in Bound Brook, New Jersey, David's early experiences were marked by a formative year spent in Israel on a Young Judaea Year Course. He later lived in New York City, Somerset, NJ, and then for 26 years in Basking Ridge, NJ. In 2017 he moved to Gillette, NJ where he resided until his passing.
He earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in history and considerable study of musicology from The City College of New York. In 1980, he completed a Law degree from Rutgers Law School.
David began his legal career at the family law firm, Blumberg and Rosenberg in Somerville, NJ where he honed his skills for several years. He then held various positions across New Jersey. An ardent supporter of human and worker’s rights, David developed a specialty in labor law. This specialty served him well as the Administer of Legal Services at the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). He served in this role with dedication for nearly two decades.
He was a member of the Congregation B’nai Israel in Basking Ridge for over 33 years, Music was an integral part of his being. His passion for music permeated his life. He played guitar since his youth. Upon retiring, he delved deeply into blues harmonica. David's passion for music was matched by his fervor for sports, particularly his lifelong devotion to the New York Yankees. A true superfan, he knew all the stats, celebrated each victory, and felt each loss deeply, embodying the spirit of a dedicated Yankee through and through. He was also an avid fan of the New York Knicks and the New York Jets.
David was a master of word puzzles and Scrabble. Before the internet he was often regarded as the go-to authority on word validity. His love for the outdoors saw him enjoying many hikes with his beloved wife, Aviva, to whom he was married for 39 years.
David leaves behind his wife Aviva, sons Aaron and Jeremy Rosenberg, daughter-in-law Brunna, grandson Derik Vilaca de Souza and his sister Joan Wolchansky, her husband Alan, and her two sons Michael and Danny.
