Paul Marici

Obituary of Paul P. Marici

Paul “Zlata” Marici, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024, at the age of 67.

Paul was born on May 20th, 1957, to Gheorghe and Cristina Marici in Sanpetru Mare, Romania. He graduated from The Polytechnic University of Timisoara, Romania in 1983 with a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1984, Paul met his wife Carmen when her cousin hired his band to play at a party. The couple went on to marry in 1986 in Timisoara, Romania, and moved to the United States in 1987. They settled in New Jersey, and in 1995, Paul and Carmen welcomed their precious daughter, Michelle, into the world.

Paul started working at Linden Mold & Tool Co. as a Mechanical Engineer in 1988. In 2012, he started at Becton Dickinson as a Staff Engineer, eventually becoming a Principal Engineer working in Design & Development. Paul was an inventor on over 30 approved patents for medical devices.

A great lover of the outdoors, Paul spent a lot of his free time either fishing, gardening, or taking his beloved dog, Cody, to the dog park. He was a man of many talents, one of which was being an accordion player in a Serbian folk band formed during his college years.

Paul was a generous man who cared deeply for his family and friends. He always gave a lot and never asked or expected anything in return. He believed in making the lives of those around him easier and wanted everyone to succeed in each of their endeavors.

Paul lost the fight to Glioblastoma brain cancer after a brave two and a half year battle. His wife and dedicated daughter who managed his medical care give special thanks to the clinical trial team at Columbia Herbert Irving Medical Center, his doctors at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and the entire care team at The Parker at Somerset, who helped bring him and his family peace during his final 3 months.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Carmen; his daughter, Michelle Marici-Camarre and her husband Brandon; sister, Milita Cechici and her husband Vlada; sister, Dobrinca Petrov and her husband Dobromir; niece, Vesna Cechici-Matei and her husband Marius and their precious daughter Natalia; nephew, Dragan Petrov; along with numerous relatives and friends. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Gheorghe and Cristina Marici.
