Obituary of William Richard Schmeisser

William Richard Schmeisser, age 66, died on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in East Orange, NJ, William lived in Bloomfield for 22 years before settling in Plainfield and North Plainfield 44 years ago. He was the son of William Ernest Schmeisser and Marie (Mueller) Schmeisser and the brother of Audrey Schmeisser Wary, all of whom predeceased him. He was a graduate of Montclair State College, a member of Phi Lamda Pi fraternity, and of History and Geography organizations. He began and ended his teacher career, spanning 44 years, in the Warren Township Central and Middle Schools. He was a Master Teacher of American History, specializing in the Civil War Era. Mr. Schmeisser received many awards from students for Teacher of the Year and Whos Who in American Educators. He was highly regarded and loved not only by his family and friends, but also by his students, their parents and his colleagues. Mr. Schmeisser was Warren Townships Recreation Director for 19 years throughout the 60s and 70s. Mr. Schmeisser is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail (Purchase) Schmeisser; three daughters, Lori and Lisa Schmeisser of North Plainfield and Amy (Schmeisser) Slyvchak; son-in-law, Mark Slyvchak; and precious granddaughter, Hailey Marie Slyvchak of South Plainfield; many nieces, nephews and friends; and his loving dog, Samson. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 11:00 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ 07069. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21st and Monday, September 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
