Obituary of Peter Hamilton Martin
Martinsville: Peter H. Martin, age 46, passed away Friday, February 13 at his home after a valiant battle against lung cancer.
Born in Rahway, he resided in Madison before moving to Martinsville in 1984.
He attended the American School in London, England for his freshman and sophomore years. He returned to the United States, completing his high school education at Chatham High School. After graduation, he attended Susquehanna University and graduated from the County College of Morris.
Mr. Martin was employed at General Dynamics in Florham Park for 16 years as a Mechanical Engineer. Previously, he worked for Allied Signal in Morristown for 8 years.
He was a 17 year member and past Vice President, Assistant Secretary and Lieutenant of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department. He spent many hours teaching children in our local elementary and pre-schools, Girl Scout and Cub Scout Troops about fire safety. In addition, he was a volunteer coach for 4 years for Bridgewater Recreational Soccer and a volunteer coach for the Bridgewater Soccer Association for 3 years. He was an avid model car builder and member of St. Martins Episcopal Church in Bridgewater. He was notorious for his dry wit, sense of humor and his love of music.
His mother, Olive Smyth Martin, predeceased him in 2000.
Surviving are his loving wife, Faythe Conover Martin; cherished daughter and son, Candace Lynn and Alexander Peter, both at home; his father, Franklin A. Martin of Chatham Township; his brother, George and his wife Janice of Readington and his sister Diane Montgomery and her husband, Robert of Killington, VT. Peter will also be greatly missed by his in-laws, Gayle and Bill Conover of Mendham, Debbie Burnet and Chris Martin of Budd Lake, Glen and Joanne Conover of Lake Hopatcong and Darrell and Lisa Conover of Mendham. He was a wonderful uncle to his 5 nieces and 7 nephews.
A Memorial and celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 am at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 1350 Washington Valley Rd. in Bridgewater. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Peter H. Martin to the Carol G.
