Obituary of Joseph Alexander Kreskey

Dr. Joseph Alexander Kreskey, 73, retired superintendent of schools, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Edison Township, he spent his entire career of 39 years as an educator and administrator in the Edison Public Schools. He began his career in 1955 as a fifth / sixth grade teacher at the Piscatawaytown Elementary School. He subsequently served as principal of the James Madison and John Adams grade schools in Edison and, in 1967, as principal of Edison High School. He was the assistant superintendent of curriculum from 1969 until 1982 when be became Deputy Superintendent. He became Superintendent in 1991 and retired in December of 1994. Dr. Kreskey served with the armed services in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Joseph was dedicated to the importance of education as a means of enhancing the community. He also was an avid fisherman who spent much time on the Outer Banks and Marthas Vineyard. Dr. Kreskey has resided in Watchung since 1974. He is survived by Ursula, his wife of 30 years, living in Watchung; his son, Bennett and three grandchildren, Sam, Kate and Jenny, all residing in Auckland, New Zealand; a sister, Margaret Liss Reegan of Edison, three nephews, a niece and their families. Also surviving is his aunt, Mrs. Frances Rudisi of Summit, and her family. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 4 at 9:00 am at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by a 9:30 am funeral Mass at St. Marys Stony Hill R.C. Church in Watchung and interment at Thompson Memorial Cemetery in New Hope, PA. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Memorial donations to a youth charity or Catholic Church of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
