Obituary of Mary Laurita O´Shea R.S.M.
Sr. Mary Laurita OShea, 87, died on Monday, May 10, 2004 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ.
Sister Laurita was born in Trenton, NJ and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1937; she received a BA degree in Social Studies from Georgian Court College and a MS degree in Education from Villanova University.
Sister Laurita taught in Catholic elementary schools in South Amboy, Burlington and Phillipsburg from 1938 until 1956.
From 1957 until 1999, she taught in the following secondary schools in the Trenton and Camden Dioceses; Camden Catholic High School in Camden, Cathedral High School in Trenton, Saint Mary High School in South Amboy and Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. She was a beloved teacher who shared her expertise and her wisdom with the students. She is remembered for her kindness and laughter.
In 1999, she retired to Gabriel Hall at Mount Saint Mary in Watchung, NJ, where she did volunteer work. In April of 2004 she moved to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung where she died after a short illness.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; Barry OShea of Lambertville, NJ, Jack OShea of Ringoes, NJ, Jim OShea of Trenton, NJ, Virginia OShea of Lawrenceville, NJ, Pat Creech and her husband Bob of Stockton, NJ, Maura Kimbler and her husband Curt of Pennington, NJ, Peg Wilson and her husband Dan of Florida, John Szolomayer and his wife Cheryl of Massachusetts, Stephen Szolomayer and his wife Marie of Columbus, NJ and many grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung. Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, Mount Saint Mary, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069.
