Obituary of Arthur Leonard Blumert
Plainfield: Arthur Leonard Blumert, age 86, died on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical in Plainfield. Mr. Blumert was born in Bronx, NY and had lived in Plainfield for over 56 years.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from City College in New York. He also earned two Masters Degrees, one in Education from Columbia University and one in Mathematics from the Newark College of Engineering. Mr. Blumert was a Science Teacher for Somerville High School for over 32 years. He introduced fencing to the Somerville H. S. Athletic program and coached the team for 27 years. He also was an armorer for the fencing events at the garden state games.
He was a member of the United Orthodox Synagogue in Plainfield, the Hungarian American Athletic Club of New Brunswick and the United States Fencing Association.
Mr. Blumert served in the Army Corp of Engineering during World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Blumert who died 1979.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan Blumert of Plainfield; two sons, Michael Baram of Olympia, WA and Joel Blumert of Lakeville, Connecticut; a brother, Joseph Blumert of the Bronx and 4 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 1st at 11:00 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th St. Plainfield, NJ. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
